BWIC Annual Report 2023
January 3, 2023
Dear Friends of the Brattleboro Walk-In Clinic:
Thank you for your continued support and interest in the mission of the Brattleboro Walk-In Clinic to provide primary medical treatment to persons ages 18-64 in our community who do not have health insurance or cannot afford their high deductible or co-insurance. Since we closed in 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2022 was the first full year BWIC was open to patients on-site at 191 Clark Avenue. We continue with precautions to maintain the safety of both staff and patients in regard to Covid-19.
In 2022 BWIC provided 163 free patient visits. 65 new patient visits accounted for 40% of total visits, with the remaining representing patients who had been seen at least once. Patients seen at the Clinic ranged in age from 18 years old to over 65. Although a majority of patients were from Windham County, 13% were New Hampshire residents. Many of our patients are employed but do not have adequate healthcare insurance. BWIC provided care for 65 patients (40%) who worked for 44 different employers.
The Clinic continued to operate only on Tuesday evenings during 2022 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm on a first-come, first-serve basis. BWIC continues with 1-2 providers on duty and patient visits averaging less than 10 on Tuesday evenings. Jeanne Seymour, our administrator and only paid staff member continues to coordinate Clinic operations. She is complemented by a pool of volunteers on Tuesday evenings which includes medical providers, nurses, clerical staff, and screening staff. Our dedicated volunteers are the strength of our organization.
The Board of Directors continues to meet and work on goals established in our strategic plan.
- Goal A: Focus our mission on medical services for persons ages 18-64 with no insurance or high deductibles.
- Goal B: Secure improved space for the Clinic. [Achieved on purchasing our building in 2021 !]
- Goal C: Raise Community Awareness of who we are.
- Goal D: Build a sustainable financial base.
- Goal E: Develop a sustainable board structure.
As always, I would like to thank the individuals, local businesses, churches, and other organizations for their continued support and interest in our services throughout the year; and especially thank our administrator Jeanne Seymour, my fellow board members, and the volunteers working at the clinic for their time, expertise and dedication, because without you the Brattleboro Walk-In Clinic could not continue to provide care to those in need.
Sincerely, Andrew Miller, President
